The lie of the lions: christians were NOT persecuted or killed in coliseums because of their christian belief system, or “faith.” They were killed because they were criminals.

The grand mythology of christians being fed to lions is no doubt a very powerful story. But generally, it is not a true, or real or historical narrative of events that led Romans to kill them.

In fact, Romans killed many people by vicious means, and most of their victims were not christians–they killed people for sport, and to ensure that their version of law was upheld. The christian cults were just a dot on the map of who they persecuted.

Here’s more on that:

Who did the Romans kill–christians? Not always, and not specifically.
